Stags enhance semis bid
San Sebastian College solidified its bid in the race for the last three semifinals berths.

San Sebastian College boosted its semifinals bid in a bounce back win over College of St. Benilde, 73-61, Thursday in the 93rd NCAA seniors basketball competition at the FilOil Flying V Centre in San Juan.

The Stags dominated the match from the get-go and cruised to their sixth win in 12 outings for a three-way tie at fourth to sixth tied with Letran and Emilio Aguinaldo College.

"I guess the boys really want to be here," said Stags coach Egay Macaraya. "Hopefully, everybody will step up para hindi kami masyadong mahirapan."

Enzo Navarro scored 16 points in a 5-of-six shooting - all beyond the arc - while Michael Calisaan had a double-double with 11 markers and 11 rebounds for SSC-R, which returned in the win column after suffering a 65-76 loss at the hands of San Beda College.

Ryan Costelo posted 10 pooints while Ian Valdez and Allyn Bulanadi combined for 16 for the Recto-based squad. 

SSC-R opened a 13-point lead in the second quarter and entered halftime with a 30-20 advantage. The Stags cruised in the next two quarters, building its biggest lead, 70-52, with 3:34 remaining in the game off a trey by Navarro.  

The Blazers, who still have an outside chance for one the last three Final Four spots after Lyceum of the Philippines University formalized its entry to the second round earlier, dropped to 3-10 slate and remained at ninth place. CSB lost six of its last seven matches.

Clement Letcheu finished with 15 points and grabbed nine boards while Unique Naboa had 15 for the Taft-based squad.
