Red Robins secure at least a playoff for a semis berth

Defending champion Malayan High School of Science kept its tight hold of the top spot and secured at least a playoff for a Final Four spot.
Carl Lacap led the way for defending champion Malayan High School of Science to clinch at least a playoff for a semifinals berth Thursday against La Salle-Greenhills, 71-62 in the juniors division of the 93rd NCAA basketball competition at the FilOil Flying V Centre in San Juan.
Lacap scored 14 points while Joaqui Garcia had 13 for the Red Robins, who kept a tight hold of the lead with a 12-2 win-loss record. Clint Escamis finished with a double-double with 11 points and 14 rebounds including four assists for Malayan.
The Junior Blazers absorbed their fourth loss in 14 outings.
Joel Calungan posted 15 points, Joshua Marcos finished with 14 while Inand Fornillos registered 12 markers and 10 boards in a lost cause for LSGH.
Meanwhile, Luke Sese scattered 18 points while Evan Nelle added 14 markers and nine assists in San Beda’s 94-65 rout of Arellano University.
The Red Cubs solidified their semis bid and improved to 9-5 mark while the Braves fell to 6-8 card.
