DOWN THE WIRE. CSB-LSGH and San Beda are still in dead heat for the second spot.
San Beda 10-5
San Sebastian 8-6
Only one playoff incentive remains in the 93rd Season of the NCAA Juniors Basketball Tournament and four teams have realistic shots at it.
Both College of St. Benilde-La Salle Greenhills and San Beda High School are still the frontrunners for the twice-to-beat advantage following separate wins on Tuesday at the Filoil Flying V Centre.
Pounding on the boards and taking full advantage of their many more shot attempts, the Junior Blazers got the better of Jose Rizal High School, 80-73.
Joel Cagulangan, Joshua Marcos, and Mark Sangco each scored 15 points to carry their team back onto the win column now at 11-4.
Inand Fornilos proved to be the biggest difference between the two teams, however, and posted a 12-point, 18-rebound double-double. All this, while standing at the forefront of their massive advantage in offensive rebounds, 24-11; second chance points, 17-4; and shot attempts, 89-62.
With the bounce back win, CSB-LSGH remains in solo second.
Putting more pressure on them are the Red Cubs who mangled University of Perpetual Help, 87-66.
The boys from Taytay started strong and never looked back all the way to a third consecutive victory and 10th overall in 15 games.
Luke Sese, by his lonesome, outscored all of the Junior Altas in the first quarter alone, 9-2.
Behind that 23-8 blitz, San Beda strengthened its stranglehold of the third spot while also staying right behind the second running Junior Blazers.
Sese wound up with 12 points while Evan Nelle contributed 16 points, eight assists, three rebounds, and two steals.
While the Junior Blazers and the Red Cubs are the frontrunner, 9-6 Colegio de San Juan de Letran and 8-6 San Sebastian College-Recoletos also have a fighting chance for the remaining playoff incentive.
Meanwhile, their respective losses dropped the Light Bombers to 5-10 and the Junior Altas to 4-10.
