THE HELP. Letran was putting on its best performances in the season when Jeo Ambohot was manning the middle.
After seven weeks on the shelf, Jeo Ambohot returned to action for Colegio de San Juan de Letran on Friday.
And in just 18 minutes of action, the six-foot-five center flashed some of the potential he had already been harnessing before suffering a right wrist fracture.
At the end of the game, he had eight points built on two treys on top of three rebounds and three blocks. “Kanina, sobrang excited ako kasi siyempre, kakabalik ko lang,” he told reporters after the game.
Asked why his recovery went so well, he answered, “Sinunod ko lang pinapagawa sa akin. Ewan ko lang bakit din ang dali ko ring nakabalik.”
Of course, all his effort was all for naught as the Knights fell to still undefeated Lyceum of the Philippines University, 69-81.
Still, the fact that they finally had Ambohot back to complement their core four of Jerrick Balanza, JP Calvo, Rey Nambatac, and Bong Quinto is nothing but a positive development.
From here, Letran will bring along their promising big man slowly, but surely. “Wala pa sa rhythm, wala pa sa timing, mabilis mapagod so alalay lang talaga and ‘di ko siya gaanong pinilit masyado. Knowing naman yung batang yun, kahit injured, lalaro talaga,” head coach Jeff Napa said.
Looking ahead, however, Napa said Ambohot can only be better. “Coming next game, siguro 100 percent na siya kaya magiging maganda ang laban,” he said, referring to their next assignment, a rivalry game with San Beda College a week from now.
With their roster at full strength, the Knights are nothing but confident they can hang on to the fourth spot they currently possess. As their head coach put it, “Confident naman ako kasi ever since naman talaga, pagbuo ng team na ‘to, alam kong malayo ang mararating namin.”
The even better news is their just returned talent is also only determined to contribute in any way he can. “Gagawin ko lahat ng best ko. Sabi nga nila coach, dapat ibalik ko yung game ko para sa amin,” he said.
