THEY GOT THIS. Kent Salado's status is unsure - what he is sure of, however, is that Arellano's other guys will only keep stepping up.
Kent Salado steered Arellano University to a strong start against San Sebastian College-Recoletos on Tuesday.
However, he wasn’t on the floor to direct their even stronger finish that gives them an even better fighting chance for the last playoff berth in the NCAA 93 Men’s Basketball Tournament.
Salado suffered a leg injury late in the final frame and never returned to the game. “Masakit talaga. Kanina, tumunog siya kaya ‘di ko na lang pinilit kasi baka lumala,” he shared with reporters after the other Chiefs finished their 85-79 triumph over the Golden Stags.
He then continued, “Buti talaga nanalo kami.”
The win moves Arellano onto a share of the fifth spot at 7-9. Also, they stand just right behind fourth-running and 8-8 Colegio de San Juan de Letran.
While the good news is that the Chiefs stayed in the playoff hunt, the bad news is that they will have to hope for the best with regards to Salado’s status. “Tiwala akong makakabalik ako kasi parang na-hyper extend lang kasi wala namang maga. Sana walang punit, pero bukas ko pa malalaman kung paglalaruin ako,” he shared.
He then continued, “Siyempre, gusto ko ring makabalik kasi importante yung game namin.”
The Legarda-based squad hopes the magic continues for them in their last two assignments up against University of Perpetual Help on Thursday and then up against Mapua University a week from now.
Whatever happens, though, the “Master Chief” says he has full faith that his teammates can take care of business. “Kung hindi ako makalaro, hindi ko pipilitin kasi baka lumala. Meron akong tiwala sa mga kakampi kong kakayanin nila yun,” he said.
After all, it was Arellano’s other guys who kept them alive and kicking.
