Knights’ goal: ‘Magpakilala ulit na ang Letran, nandyan pa rin’

IT AIN'T OVER 'TIL IT'S OVER. JP Calvo along with Jeo Ambohot, Jerrick Balanza, Rey Nambatac, and Bong Quinto are more than capable of winning each and every do-or-die game Letran finds itself in.
Just two years ago, Colegio de San Juan de Letran made a magical run all the way to the championship.
From the onset of that tournament, it was clear that team bannered by Mark Cruz and Kevin Racal was destined for greatness.
The exact same cannot be said for the Knights of 2017 who find themselves still alive and kicking, but in a do-or-die situation from here on out.
Still, they promise to fight with their all and make a mark, win or lose – in true Letran tradition. “Magandang pinag-uusaan na ulit kami, pero ‘di ibig sabihin na makakampante kami kasi ‘di naman talaga yun ang goal namin,” team captain Rey Nambatac said.
He then continued, “Ang goal namin is magpakilala ulit na ang Letran, nandyan pa rin.”
Indeed, with Lyceum of the Philippines University taking the league by storm, San Beda College still the defending champions, and both Jose Rizal University and San Sebastian College-Recoletos returning to relevance, not many remember that the Knights’ charge is fronted by the more than capable likes of Nambatac, Jeo Ambohot, Jerrick Balanza, JP Calvo, and Bong Quinto.
Without a doubt, that is a core that is more than capable of winning each and every do-or-die game it is in.
Letran has been given even more confidence after taking the first step in its uphill climb by edging out Arellano University of Friday. Nothing but proud of the effort of his boys, head coach Jeff Napa said post-game, “Yung puso, yung pagiging Letranista, talagang nandun. Hindi basta-basta bumigay hanggang dulo.”
And now, they are setting their sights on the Golden Stags who walloped them by 31 points in the previous meeting between the two teams.
Having their backs to the wall, however, is just how the Knights like it. “I know naman na Baste ay hindi magpapatalo, pero itong pinagdaanan namin, madadala namin ito next game. We’ll see kung anong mangyayari du, pero rest assured na talagang magtatrabaho kami,” Napa shared.
He then continued, “Rest assured na yung mga bata, talagang ibibigay yung best nila, yung heart nila. Ayoko pa rin kasing magbakasyon.”
Letran and San Sebastian fight over the fourth and final playoff berth on Tuesday at the MOA Arena.
