BIG SHOT. Robert Bolick yet again proved his clutch credentials - up against erstwhile undefeated LPU, no less.
Robert Bolick just could not take Lyceum of the Philippines University out of his mind.
“Minsan sa gabi, mapapaisip ka kung anong kailangan mong gawin kalaban sila. Matutulog ka ba nang maaga? Kakain ka ba nang maayos,” he told reporters. “Kasi yung Marcelino twins, hindi napapagod. (Reymar) Caduyac, ang galing. (Mike) Nzeusseu, (CJ) Perez, guys from the bench, ang galing. Coach Topex (Robinson). They’re a good team.”
Bolick and San Beda College were at the receiving end of statement wins by the Pirates in their first two meetings in the NCAA 93 Men’s Basketball Tournament.
And so, the Red Lions, without a doubt, had an ax to grind with their newest rivals from Intramuros.
In Game 1 of the Finals on Friday, the defending champions’ captain finally had another chance to do something about it.
On the third try, San Beda finally solved the riddle that was LPU.
And they can thank Bolick for it. “We lost two times to that team. Yun na yung motivation,” he said.
In the end, he had 24 points, four rebounds, two assists, and one steal to lead his team to a well-earned 94-87 win.
The King Lion went to work when it mattered most, scoring all but two of the team’s last 11 points.
Through all of that, he was apparently fighting fatigue – having defended Season MVP CJ Perez and having been defended by Marcelino twins Jayvee and Jaycee. “Last quarter, hindi ko na talaga kaya kasi pagod na pagod ako. Kaya sumisigaw na lang ako sa last kasi naghahanap na ako ng motivation na kaya ko pa,” he shared.
Head coach Boyet Fernandez wasn’t surprised at all that his main man, yet again, proved his clutch credentials. As he put it, “Sabi nga nila, in these biggest games, you can separate the men from the boys. Robert stepped up and he’s really a man.”
