Bolick says Perez-led LPU is best team he’s ever faced
CHALLENGE ACCEPTED. All year long, San Beda's Robert Bolick has wanted nothing more than to take down CJ Perez and LPU.

In the first round of the NCAA 93 Men’s Basketball Tournament, Lyceum of the Philippines University sent a statement to defending champion San Beda College via a convincing 96-91 victory.

Then in the second round meeting between the two teams, the Pirates did it again with a 107-105 double-overtime win.

For Robert Bolick, those are more than enough reason to say that LPU is the greatest challenge he, as a player, has ever faced. “Ang galing talaga ng Lyceum. Feeling ko, sa buong career ko sa basketball, sila yung pinakamagaling na team na nakalaban ko,” he said.

Take note that this is the same player who was San Beda’s defensive stopper for Arellano University’s Jiovani Jalalon in last season’s NCAA Finals as well as Cignal’s main man up against Mark Cruz and Jerwin Gaco-led Tanduay in the PBA D-League earlier in the year.

This is also the same player who was once part of a De La Salle University side which went up against Ray Parks Jr.’s National University, Kiefer Ravena’s Ateneo de Manila University, and Jeric Teng’s University of Sto. Tomas. Also, he played for College of St. Benilde-La Salle Greenhills when they went up against dynastic San Beda High in the Juniors.

Meaning, his statement is only the biggest of compliments for a Pirate crew which had just made its first-ever championship round.

Pressed further, Bolick said that LPU’s pressure defense sets it apart. “Ang hirap ng LPU talaga kasi talagang ang galing nilang dumepensa. Sabi nga ni coach, tumalikod ka, nandun na sila agad,” he said.

He then continued, “They’re a really good team. Talagang mauubos mo lahat. They bring out the best in us.”

That is even truer for the 20-year-old who was matched up with Season MVP CJ Perez. “Ang galing niya, magaling talaga siya. You can’t stop him and you just force him to tough shots,” the former said.

He then continued, “MVP siya e. He’s MVP for a reason.”

And when Bolick and the Red Lions finally got one over Perez and the Pirates in Game 1 of the best-of-three Finals, the former was only looking forward to another round. “Sabi ko sa kanya, congratulations on the MVP, you deserve it. See you in Game 1,” he shared.

Game 2 of the Finals between San Beda and LPU is on Thursday at the Araneta Coliseum. All of the action will be on S+A, S+A HD, and livestream.
