MAMA'S BOY. Robert Bolick has had the all-out support of his mom Zeny all throughout his career.
Heading into Game 2 of the Finals, with San Beda College needing one more win for back-to-back championships, Robert Bolick did not get a good night’s sleep.
“Hindi ako makatulog kagabi,” he told reporters as the Red Lions still found themselves down 1-2 in the season series against Lyceum of the Philippines University.
Good thing then that the 23-year-old had his lifelong comfort zone there with him. “Dasal lang ako nang dasal. Katabi ko nanay ko, dasal lang kami nang dasal,” he said.
Apparently, the prayers worked as he scored seven points in the last five minutes to lead the defending champions in blanking the Pirates in the championship round.
In the end, he had 18 points, six assists, and five rebounds and was one of the major reasons in the Mendiola-based squad’s 10th title in the last 12 years – and 21st overall. “Kapag nanonood si mom, talagang ibibigay mo ang best mo,” he said afterward.
Not long after, Bolick was celebrating with the very same person who gave birth to him. “I just want to thank my mom. Simula sa pagiging bench player ko, she buys me shoes kahit wala kaming pera, she buys me gatas para mainom ko,” he shared, in front of the crowd at the Araneta Coliseum and for everybody watching.
Through those words, the Ormoc, Leyte native was clutching his mom at his side.
To top it all off, he had one more message for Zeny Bolick. “I love her to death,” he expressed.
And so, Robert Bolick’s championship-winning Thursday essentially began with his mom by his side.
And soon enough, Robert Bolick’s championship-winning Thursday essentially ended with his mom by his side.
