Lyceum of the Philippines University ace scorer Cherilyn Sindayen (no. 2) will have to skip NCAA Season 93 because of academic problems.
Lyceum of the Philippines University lost two main weapons even before the Lady Pirates open their campaign in the 93rd NCAA women’s volleyball competition.
Head coach Emil Lontoc confirmed that top hitter Cherilyn Sindayen and middle blocker La Rainne Fabay won’t suit up for the team this season because of academic problems.
Sindayen, the Lady Pirates’ leading scorer last season with 30.32% success rate in attacks, had to skip her supposedly last playing year, but will return next year. She was not listed in the final lineup submitted by LPU.
“Nagkaproblema kasi siya sa grades niya. Sabi niya, “Coach baka di ako umabot.” Medyo mahirap din kasi ang course niya, accountancy,” Lontoc told ABS-CBN Sports Thursday during the opening of the tournament at the FilOil Flying V Centre in San Juan.
Fabay is included in the final roster but Lontoc said that she will also need to sit out the season.
“Si Fabay nagkaroon din ng problema sa grades,” added Lontoc. “Si (Rocelyn) Hongria naman pabalik pa lang sa US pero makakalaro naman.”
Sindayen and Fabay played for LPU in the Premier Volleyball League Collegiate Conference during the offseason.
The Intramuros-based squad will open its campaign on Sunday against Perpetual Help.
