Cesca Racraquin and the rest of the San Beda Lady Red Spikers begin their quest in the 93rd NCAA women’s volleyball tournament Friday against the Shola Alvarez-led Jose Rizal University squad at the FilOil Flying V Centre in San Juan.
Looking to join opening day winners repeat-seeking Arellano University and San Sebastian College, the Lady Red Spikers and Lady Bombers take center stage at 12:30 p.m. after the Letran-College of St. Benilde faceoff at 11:00 a.m.
But all eyes are set on Season 92 Rookie of the Year winner Racraquin as she tries to carry her team back in the Final Four.
The Lady Red Spikers ace will have the Viray twins Niez and Jeziela, and Satriani Espiritu as her support crew against JRU’s Alvarez, last year’s Best Opposite Spiker Karen Montojo and Dolly Versoza.
Both teams joined the Premier Volleyball League Collegiate Conference a few months back as part of their build up for the tournament.
San Beda advanced in the stepladder semifinals last year but the Lady Red Spikers were eliminated by the Lady Blazers in the first knockout phase.
Meanwhile, CSB will parade transferees Felicia Cui and former National University player Marites Pablo together with veterans Ranya Musa, who is on her fifth and last playing year, Rachel Austero and setter Paulien Cardiente.
Meanwhile, CSB-La Salle Greenhills and Letran will meet at 8:00 a.m. in the juniors match while the Blazers and Knights collide at 9:30 in men’s play.
Closing the playdate is the Bombers-Red Spikers men’s match at 2:00 p.m.
