San Sebastian College looks to join defending champion Arellano University on top of the standings in a clash with Jose Rizal University Monday in the 93rd NCAA women’s volleyball competition at the FilOil Flying V Centre in San Juan.
Game time is at 12:30 p.m. after the 11:00 a.m. tussle between Mapua University and Letran.
The Lady Stags hurdled Emilio Aguinaldo College Lady Generals in straight sets 25-16, 25-19, 25-16, despite fielding only seven players in a short nine-woman roster.
SSC-R is in a four-team logjam with other opening day winners University of Perpetual Help, College of St. Benilde and San Beda College behind the Lady Chiefs, who sport a 2-0 win-loss slate.
Veterans Joyce Sta. Rita, Dangie Encarnacion, Nikka Dalisay and Daurene Santos all scored 13 points each in the Lady Stags debut.
Despite starting their campaign on a sour note, the Lady Bombers gave San Beda, considered as one of the top Final Four contenders, quite a scare last Friday. JRU showed grit in a 25-23, 19-25, 25-13, 19-25, 9-15, loss to the Lady Red Spikers.
The Lady Bombers will pin their hopes on Dolly Versoza and Shola Alvarez, who scored 18 and 17, respectively, to collect their first win.
Meanwhile, the Lady Cardinals and Lady Knights collide to bounce back fro their respective opening day setbacks.
Mapua dropped its 10th straight defeat since last season with a 10-25, 17-25, 13-25, loss to Arellano U while Letran tasted a 22-25, 11-25, 20-25, beating at the hands of CSB Friday.
