Arellano U out to extend win streak to 3, hold of solo lead

Arellano University hopes to continue with its winning ways.

Repeat-seeking Arellano University guns for a hold of the solo lead against Letran in the 93rd NCAA women’s volleyball competition at the FilOil Flying V Centre in San Juan on Friday.
The duel will start at 11:00 a.m. to be followed by the showdown between Jose Rizal University and winless Emilio Aguinaldo College.
The Lady Chiefs share the early lead with San Beda College and College of St. Benilde after two outings.
Arellano U swept the EAC Lady Generals, 25-19, 25-12, 25-11, last Sunday for its second win this season and 14th straight victory since Season 92.
Transferee Necole Ebuen finished with 15 points against the Lady Generals and is expected to deliver the same firepower when she faces her former school. Ebuen was with Letran’s Team B last year before deciding to transfer to the Legarda-based squad.
Aside from Ebue, head coach Obet Javier will also bank on his veteran crew led by Jovielyn Prado, Regine Arocha, Mary Anne Esguerra and Andrea Marzan.
The Lady Knights is coming off a morale-boosting 25-22, 25-17, 25-19, win over hapless Mapua University Lady Cardinals last Monday for a 1-1 win-loss slate tied with San Sebastian College, University of Perpetual Help and the Lady Bombers.
Meanwhile, JRU shoots for its second straight win to move up the standings.
Shola Alvarez finished with career-high 28 points in the Lady Bombers’ historic 27-25, 25-23, 22-25, 16-25, 15-12, victory over SSC-R last Monday.
The Lady Generals are still looking for their first win. EAC is winless in two games alongside Mapua and Lyceum of the Philippines University.
