Short rotation could sink Lyceum's ship fast
Following problems with academics, Emil Lontoc's Lyceum squad is left with only eight players for each game.
San Sebastian College - Recoletos is not the only team that has a sort of depleted line up in the NCAA Season 93 women's volleyball tournament.
Following problems with academics, Lyceum is left with only eight players for each game.
And as the season progresses, that's starting to become a problem for the Lady Pirates.
Against College of St. Benilde, Lyceum took another loss after a grueling five-set affair.
The Lady Pirates zoomed to a quick 2-0 lead but faltered in the end. Head coach Emil Lontoc refuses to blame player fatigue but he did say that having a rather short rotation is starting to take affect their performance.
"Hindi naman actually napagod, inconsistent lang yung aming first ball," he said.
"Malaking factor yun [eight players] kasi wala talaga kaming diskarte. Pag doon, wala kaming pamalit. Factor talaga yun unless maging consistent yung mga player namin," Lontoc added.
The veteran mentor has given up on the chance to have a complete team this season, mainly because there's no chance to save his players' grades now.
"Yun na yun, kasi injured yung grades nung anim. Kung hindi naman ganun, glory to God kung naging kumpleto kami, isa kami sa team na [in contention]," Lontoc said.
With only eight players and a 0-2 record, the Lady Pirates will have to make do of the current situation moving forward.
"Kasi sa walo na yan, tatlo lang first 6 diyan eh. Yung dalawa jan hindi naman talaga maglalaro pa eh, pinilit na lang namin. Pinush lang namin at nag-double time kami ng training nung December," Lontoc said.
"Pero kailangan talaga maging consistent kami, lalo na sa depensa," he added.
