Lady Stags get going again after overcoming Lady Blazers
Team captain Joyce Sta. Rita and San Sebastian finally had enough to get back in the win column
San Sebastian College-Recoletos was in danger of dropping its third game in a row in the NCAA 93 Women’s Volleyball Tournament.
That skid would have been the volleyball powerhouses’ longest in the elimination round for at least the last two years.
Nikka Dalisay wasn’t going to let that happen, however, and came through for the Lady Stags in their four-set conquest of College of St. Benilde, 23-25, 25-23, 25-19, and 25-23 on Friday at the Filoil Flying V Centre.
Dalisay punched 15 kills as well as three blocks for a total of 19 points, powering the girls of Roger Gorayeb back onto the win column at 2-2.
Following a season-opening win, San Sebastian dropped back-to-back games in the elimination round for the first time in a long while.
Their struggles seemed to continue in the earlygoing of this one as Ranya Musa was feeling it and won the first set for the Lady Blazers.
Fortunately for them, Dalisay and Joyce Sta. Rita had all the answers from that point and led them into coming away with the win in the next three tightly-contested sets.
Sta. Rita wound up with 12 points while Daurene Santos chipped in 11 markers of her own for Baste which continues to only suit up eight players.
The shorthanded rotation is a far cry from their stacked lineup in the heyday of Grethcel Soltones which had them sweeping the eliminations for two seasons in a row.
Gorayeb and his girls are well aware that they have much work to do if they are to finally win that elusive championship.
Much work is also ahead for CSB which suffered its second straight setback and now stands at 2-2.
Musa topped the scoring column for them in this one with 18 points.
The Taft-based team got some sort of revenge in the men’s game as the Blazers blanked the Golden Stags, 25-20, 25-19, and 25-21.
Isaah Arda scored 14 points and Mark Orian added 12 markers of his own as CSB improved to 3-1 while Baste dropped to 1-3
