'Pusong champion' fuels Arellano U in come-from-behind win
Sabi ko lang po sa kanila na maglaro kami na may pusong champion kasi yun at yun din po ang pagkukunan namin -- Arellano U ace hitter Jovielyn Prado

Arellano University veteran hitter Jovileyn Prado reminded her teammates of a sports adage to fuel their desire to win while Andrea Marzan provided the swag that rubbed on to the rest of the Lady Chiefs to survive their toughest test yet in the 93rd NCAA women’s volleyball competition.

The duo led the repeat-seeking and unbeaten Arellano U to an incredible comeback from two sets down for a 22-25, 19-25, 25-21, 25-20, 15-5 victory over University of Perpetual Help at the FilOil Flying V Centre in San Juan Tuesday.

Prado, who is in her last playing year, gave a little pep talk to her teammates after a sluggish start that saw them get buried in a 0-2 hole in the match.

“Sabi ko lang po sa kanila na maglaro kami na may pusong champion kasi yun at yun din po ang pagkukunan namin,” said Prado, who powered the Lady Chiefs with 20 points.

The Lady Chiefs won their sixth straight match of the season and secured at least a playoff for a semifinals spot while extending their winning streak to 18 since last season.

While Prado’s words gave Arellano U the much-needed morale boost, Marzan’s court antics at the net sparked the burning desire of the Lady Chiefs to preserve their unbeaten record.

Marzan was getting under the skin of some Perpetual players with her swag and her ‘naglalaba’ gesture each time the Lady Chiefs earned a score was a hit for the huge Arellano U crowd that trooped to the venue.

“Wala po ‘yun effect lang po ‘yun,” said the middle blocker, who posted 13 attacks and three kill blocks for 16 points.

“Parang panglibang lang po sa loob ng court kasi lalo na nu’ng first and second set naghahabol kaya binuhay ko lang po,” added Marzan whose swag rubbed on to Prado, who during one play in the third set gave Lady Altas hitter Cindy Imbo a finger wag after scoring on a kill block.

Arellano U will shoot for a Final Four berth on Friday against San Beda College, which is also unscathed in five games.
