Undefeated San Beda College is out to secure at least a playoff for semifinals berth against the struggling Lyceum of the Philippines University in the 93rd NCAA women’s volleyball competition at the FilOil Flying V Centre in San Juan on Wednesday.

The Lady Red Spikers are at solo second spot with a 5-0 win-loss record behind the repeat-seeking Arellano University (6-0).

A win in their 12:30 p.m. duel will put SBC in a good position to advance in the Final Four and will break the Mendiola-based squad’s best start back in 2013 when the Janine Marciano and Ces Molina-led Lady Red Spikers won five straight to open their season.

SBC is coming off a character-building 17-25, 25-15, 25-16, 27-29, 15-12, win against Letran on Monday with Cesca Racraquin and Nieza Viray leading the way.

The Lady Red Spikers are heavily favored against the Lady Pirates, who are on a two-game skid with a 1-4 card, but SBC coach Nemesio Gavino is not taking LPU lightly.

“Every game naman nirerespeto namin yung aming mga nakakalaban,” said Gavino of their rivals, which absorbed a straight sets loss to the Lady Chiefs the last time out.

Meanwhile, College of St. Benilde and Jose Rizal University clash at 11:00 a.m.

The Lady Blazers sport a 3-2 mark tied with San Sebastian College while the Lady Bombers hold a 2-3 slate alongside Letran.

Meanwhile, the Blazers (4-1) and Bombers (0-5) collide at 9:30 a.m. while the Pirates (1-4) and Red Spikers (4-1) meet at 2:00 p.m. in men’s action.

In the lone juniors match, the Junior Pirates cross paths with the Red Cubs at 3:30 p.m.
