EAC stops bleeding in 5-set win over Mapua

Emilio Aguinaldo College ended a 5-game slump with a hard-fought five-set win against listless Mapua University to barge in the win column of the 93rd NCAA women's volleyball competition.
The Lady Generals mounted a huge comeback from a 2-1 match deficit for their first win in six outings while adding more woes to the Lady Cardinals, 25-23, 22-25, 22-25, 25-23, 15-12, Thursday at the FilOil Flying V Centre in San Juan.
"Masaya kasi nakailang fifth set na rin kami, laging talo," a relieved EAC head coach Rod Palmero, whose wards survived their third five-set game.
"Ngayon nakalusot so nakagaan-gaan kami," adde the mentor as his team tied idle Lyceum of the Philippines University at 1-5 slate.
Ladeisheen Magbanua led three other Lady Generals in double-figure scoring with 17 points off 10 kills, five aces and a couple of kill blocks.
Aira Binondo smashed 14 spikes in her 16-point performance while Jaylene Lumbo and Yvette Tongco had 15 and 13 markers, respectively, for the Lady Generals, who took the win despite a error-filled performance that saw them give away 49 points off miscues in the 2-hour, 5-minute duel.
Mapua dropped its sixth straight game in as many outings as the Lady Cardinals' losing drought extended to 15 in a row since last season.
Patria Pena's 20-point effort for Mapua came down the drain.
Angeline Mangundayao had 10 markers while team captain Katrina Racelis finished with nine for Mapua.
