Every detail ng laro ng Arellano nasala namin -- Laniog

Every detail nu’ng laro ng Arellano talagang nasala namin so talagang 100% nag-prepare kami sa kung paano sila umaatake at the same time pinush namin na mag-misreceive ang mga receivers nila -- CSB coach Arnold Laniog on game plan to submit Arellano University
College of St. Benilde interim coach Arnold Laniog’s game plan worked to a tee as the Lady Blazers put Arellano University’s winning streak to a screeching halt on Monday to deny the reigning champion of a chance to advance in the 93rd NCAA women’s volleyball competition Finals outright.
“It took seven games bago nila maipakita yung gusto naming makita sa kanila,” said Laniog after CSB dealt the Lady Chiefs their first loss in eight games with a 25-21, 25-20, 19-25, 25-12, upset win at the FilOil Flying V Centre in San Juan.
CSB improved to a 4-3 win-loss record to keep their semifinals bid alive and for the first time in three years the league will see the the teams dispute the best-of-three championship series berths in a Final Four Four format.
The Taft-based squad put up a solid net defense to punish the semis-bound Arellano U’s hitters while frustrating the Lady Chiefs’ floor defense with 11 service aces.
“Every detail nu’ng laro ng Arellano talagang nasala namin so talagang 100% nag-prepare kami sa kung paano sila umaatake at the same time pinush namin na mag-misreceive ang mga receivers nila,” added Laniog. “Kasi may chance talaga na kapag receiver ka at mawalan ka ng pasa minsan affected talaga ang palo and blockings. Sabi ko sa game na ito sipagan at tiyagain lang natin.”
The Lady Blazers had the luxury of extra rest after their originally scheduled game against University of Perpetual Help last Friday was moved to February 6.
CSB came off a loss to Jose Rizal University last January 24.
Laniog was able to devise a good game plan and his squad executed it perfectly to exact revenge on the same team that dragged them off the throne last year in the last phase of the stepladder semis and snap Arellano U’s 19-game winning streak starting last season.
He was able to utilize the height advantage of skipper Ranya Musa and Rachel Austero as they clogged the net to contain the Lady Chiefs’ main attackers Jovielyn Prado, Necole Ebuen and Regine Arocha.
“By details nga kasi based doon sa scouting report namin mayroon silang dalawang rotation na ginagawa na may time opener si Prado may time na utility, naka-ready kami roon. May option kami, may Plan A at Plan B,” said Laniog.
“Kaya nag-start pa lang ang game nakita ko na in-open na nila so at least may tao na kami na naka-ready na doon, na ano ba ang tendency ni Prado, na kung malakas na siya sa down o sa cross? Si Arocha, malakas sa down (the line),” he added. “Noong nagpalit sila ng setter ang tendency noon mas maraming quick attack ngayon. Medyo ang tagal naming maka-adjust, na noong fourth set lang namin nakuha.”
CSB still needs to sweep its last two matches against Mapua University and Perpetual to secure a semis seat.
