University of Perpetual Help made short work of winless Mapua University, 25-18, 25-23, 25-12, Tuesday to climb into solo third spot and boost its bid for a Final Four spot in the 93rd NCAA women’s volleyball competition at the FilOil Flying V Centre in San Juan.

The troika of Lourdes Clemente, Jowie Albert Versoza and Bianca Tripoli scored 11 points each to spearhead the Lady Altas’ 65-minute victory that pushed their win-loss record to 5-2 ahead of San Sebastian College (5-3) and behind semis-bound defending champion Arellano University and San Beda College, who share the lead with 7-1 slates.

“Hindi ko in-expect na ganyan ang lalaruin ng team ko pero siguro ang team ko unti-unti nagma-mature na,” whose squad is coming off a five-set loss to the Lady Chiefs a week ago.

Clemente had nine attacks and two kill blocks while Tripoli smashed seven kills in the Las Pinas-based squad’s 32 attack points. Versoza punished the Lady Cardinals’ reception with seven aces out of the 13 service winners of Perpetual.

The Lady Altas need to win their next two assignments against Letran on Friday and College of St. Benilde on February 6 to secure a return trip to the Final Four after missing the cut last season.

Mapua remained winless after eight games as their losing skid extended to 17 straight games since last year.

Dianne Latayan was the only Lady Cardinal in double figures with 10 points while Angeline Mangundayao and skipper Katrina Racelis combined for 11 markers.

Meanwhile, the Altas dropped a set for the first time this season but recovered just in time to prevail over the Cardinals, 23-25, 32-30, 25-19, 25-20, to keep its perfect record intact after seven games and book a Final Four ticket to join Arellano University.

Mapua dropped to 5-3 slate.
