Warren Bonifacio (red jersey #15) will be staying put as a pillar for Mapua's future
While Mapua University is set to bid farewell to NCAA Juniors MVP Will Gozum, it is also set to warmly welcome another member of the NCAA Juniors Mythical Team.
The Cardinals will be adding to their roster for next season Red Robins pillar Warren Bonifacio. “Mag-stay po ako sa Mapua,” he gladly shared with ABS-CBN Sports.
The news is a much-needed lift to the spirits of the Mapua faithful three days after the commitment to the University of the Philippines of NCAA Juniors MVP Gozum.
For Bonifacio, his reason for staying is quite simple. As he put it, “Kasi po sila yung umampon sa akin nung (natanggal) ako sa Adamson. Inagaan nila ako at tinuruan kaya gusto ko po silang pasalamatan.”
The now 19-year-old once suited up for Adamson High School before finally finding his home with the Red Robins.
Now, the twin towers may be no more, but Bonifacio remains a big get for Intramuros.
The six-foot-five forward/center finished as runner-up in the MVP race on the back of per game counts of 11.5 points in 48.3 percent shooting to go along with 11.4 rebounds, 2.1 assists, and 1.7 steals.
He lags behind Gozum in terms of shooting and dribbling, but is ahead of his former partner-in-crime in terms of consistency, hustle, and leadership.
Bonifacio gives the Cardinals a formidable frontline even without a foreign student-athlete. He gets to team up with double-double machine Christian Bunag and versatile Sherwin Concepcion for years to come.
