Target kong mag-Finals ng beach volley -- JRU hitter Alvarez after falling short in women's indoor volleyball Final Four

After falling short in the Final Four in her last stint in indoor volleyball, Jose Rizal University top hitter Shola Alvarez sets her sights on the Lady Bombers’ campaign in the 93rd NCAA women’s beach volleyball competition starting February 27 in Subic.

Alvarez was emotional in her last game for JRU after the Lady Bombers absorbed a 13-25, 20-25, 17-25, loss to defending champion Arellano University in the semifinals of the indoor volleyball tournament at the FilOil Flying V Centre in San Juan Wednesday.

“Noong after ng game wala pa eh, noong nagkamayan, OK pa ako eh,” said the fifth year Alvarez.

Averaging 21.3 points per game in the elimination round, Alvarez was silenced to only seven points – her lowest this season.

The hitter admitted that the team was overwhelmed with excitement and emotion in the school’s first-ever semis stint. JRU finished the elims at fourth spot with a 6-3 win-loss record.

With her indoor career with JRU finished, Alvarez is now looking to leave a winning legacy at least in beach volleyball.

“Hindi rin po ako masyado naging emotional, hindi pa po yun kasi naisip ko may beach volley pa eh,” she said. “Sabi ko kayang-kaya naming bumawi roon.”

Alvarez will team up with Dolly Verzosa this season. Alvarez and Rosalie Pepito powered JRU to Final Four stint in beach volleyball last year.
