Pagod na din -- San Beda star Racraquin on taking responsibility in the Lady Red Spikers' Game 1 loss
San Beda University star hitter Cesca Racraquin took responsibility for the Lady Spikers’ five-set loss against defending champion Arellano University in Game 1 of the 93rd NCAA women’s volleyball Finals on Friday.
The Season 92 Rookie of the Year scored a game-high 21 points and was busy on defense with 21 digs and 23 excellent receptions in San Beda’s 15-25, 16-25, 25-15, 25-22, 6-15, best-of-three series opening loss at the FilOil Flying V Centre.
She thought she could’ve done more.
“Sa akin personally kasi sa akin din yun eh. Pagod na din,” said Racraquin, who led the Lady Red Spikers to a historic first Finals appearance.
“Kasi parang tina-target talaga nila ang opener,” she added. “Ako OK lang sa akin. Pero naano ko lang nu’ng huli, mga short ball nahihirapan na akong kunin kasi pagod na rin ‘yung katawan ko.”
Diving and digging for the ball and getting the brunt of Arellano U’s crisp service game while leading the team on offense against a well-experienced and veteran-laden team, Racraquin could only do so much.
“Ready ako na ma-hard serve tapos biglang iso-short, napapagod din ako sa pag-forward so yun yung sa akin,” she said.
It also didn’t help that frustration mounted on her teammates after the Lady Chiefs made a closing 9-0 run that broke a 6-6 deadlock in the fifth.
“Tapos yung iba masyadong sinu-swipe (ang bola) masyadong nanggigigil yung swipe palabas ng isang opener so yun ang naging problema rin naming,” Racraquin said.
Still, the hitter saw the silver lining in their loss as they seek to equalize on Monday.
“Sobrang (naka-build ng confidence kahit papaano) kasi nakita namin na ‘di naman namin kailangang matakot sa kanila kasi kaya naman namin silang i-dominate, naipakita namin yun sa third set. Na kaya rin namin silang i-contain, ipinakita namin yun sa fourth set,” she said.
“So sa next game namin. Alam namin na dapat wala kaming takot sa kanila kasi tao lang rin sila, players lang in. Yung ginagawa nila ginagawa rin naming,” said Racraquin.
