Agem Miranda is hopeful that he will have more chances to open eyes with his transfer from UE to JRU
At long last, Agem Miranda may be getting the spotlight his talent deserves.
Miranda, the lone bright spot from University of the East High School, has committed to play for consistent contender Jose Rizal University in the NCAA. “Lilipat po ako sa JRU. Sana po, magtuloy-tuloy yung improvement ko dun,” he told ABS-CBN Sports.
According to him, he has already been practicing with the Heavy Bombers for two weeks now.
The 6-foot guard averaged 17.4 points, 8.6 rebounds, 4.9 assists, and 1.8 steals in his first and only season with the Junior Warriors. He finished sixth in the MVP race – just barely missing out on the Mythical Team.
In the middle of their campaign, he also won a gold medal in athletics. He set a new UAAP record in the boys triple jump in doing so.
The 18-year-old didn’t have the same sort of luck in his preferred sport as UE only had two wins in 14 games to show for all their effort.
Despite that, he went all-out each and every game. “Nasanay po kasi ako sa larong kalye tapos siyempre dun, kapag pustahan, kailangan ibigay lahat. Lalo na po rito (sa UAAP), kaya binibigay ko lahat lagi,” he said.
Now, however, Miranda joins a JRU unit that always seems to be in the thick of things.
He will also likely take on much responsibility from the get-go as head coach Vergel Meneses will need a running mate for new main man Jed Mendoza.
