Just like everybody says, defending champion San Beda and runner-up LPU are seen as the top teams in the tournament
It’s a brand new season, but if the coaches are to be believed, we may be very well be headed to a Finals rematch now in the NCAA 94 Men’s Basketball Tournament.
All but one of the head coaches present in the preseason press conference on Tuesday at the MOA Arena named defending champion San Beda University as the team to beat in the tournament.
Head coaches Topex Robinson of Lyceum of the Philippines University, TY Tang of College of St. Benilde, Jeff Napa of Colegio de San Juan de Letran, Jerry Codinera of Arellano University, Frankie Lim of University of Perpetual Help, Egay Macaraya of San Sebastian College-Recoletos,
Atoy Co of Mapua University, and Ariel Sison of Emilio Aguinaldo College as well as Jose Rizal University assistant coach Vic Lazaro said the Red Lions remain a contender.
Only San Beda coach Boyet Fernandez did not mention his own team as the team to beat.
Of course, that is well-founded as the defending champions are mostly intact and still have blue-chip recruits James Canlas and Evan Nelle coming in.
Right there with them is the team they beat to win the championship a season ago.
Eight of the 10 coaches also mentioned the LPU as a team to beat.
That’s because much like the Red Lions, the Pirates will also be bringing back the same core and will be adding talents like Enoch Valdez and Ranzhelle Yong.
After those two, resurgent Colegio de San Juan de Letran and upstart College of St. Benilde were also recognized as contenders.
The 94th Season of the first and oldest collegiate basketball league commences on Saturday at the MOA Arena.
As always, all of the #GalingNCAA will be on S+A, S+A HD, LIGA, LIGA HD, and livestream.
