Ginebra star Scottie Thompson says his alma mater has what it takes to go far in NCAA Season 94
Scottie Thompson had a front row seat to University of Perpetual Help’s gallant stand against defending champion San Beda University, Saturday afternoon at the Mall of Asia Arena.
And while the Altas may have ultimately lost, the school legend said the near-upset only bodes well for their chances. “Parang nakikita ko na maganda ang season namin ngayon. Proud ako na maganda yung pinakita nila ngayon at sana magtuloy-tuloy,” he said.
He then continued, “Feeling ko, kaya naming mag-Final Four ngayon.”
Indeed, Perps came oh so close to toppling the dynastic Red Lions with Prince Eze being a force down low and the first-year backcourt of Edgar Charcos and Jielo Razon being a revelation.
In the eyes of Thompson, all of that is because of the multi-titled mentor who now calls the shots for the Las Pinas-based team. “I think yung nakita ko sa kanila ngayon, iba yung nagawa ni coach Frankie Lim sa offseason. Yung nitrabaho sila, yun ang lumabas ngayon,” he said.
For the now Ginebra star, the coaching change to Lim, who had once won four championships in five years for San Beda, is a much welcome one for Perpetual. “Yun ang pinakakailangan ng Perpetual e – yung new coach na makakapagdala ng winning tradition. Malaking bagay yun winning tradition ni coach Frankie at sana madala yun sa Perps,” he remarked.
