NCAA: Stags enter win column

San Sebastian College barged in the win column after defeating College of St. Benilde.
San Sebastian College rebounded from an opening day setback with an 85-78 victory over College of St. Benilde on Friday in the NCAA Season 94 seniors basketball competition at the FilOil Flying V Centre in San Juan.
Regile Ilagan nailed the dagger three-pointer to push the Stags’ lead to nine points in the last 90 seconds of the game to finally put the fight out of the debuting Blazers.
“The boy’s really wanted to win and nakita naman natin ang intensity nila the whole game,” said Egay Macaraya. “Wala akong masabi sa mga bata kasi gusto talaga nilang manalo.”
Michael Calisaan finished with a double-double with 18 points and 10 rebounds with four steals and three assists to lead SSC-R.
Ilagan had 16 markers in a 6-of-12 field goal shooting including four triples capped by his dagger with 1:36 left in the duel. Allyn Bulanadi got 13 points while JM Calma had 10 for the Stags.
SSC-R entered the fourth trailing 64-63 before making a huge rally to take the lead. The Stags were protecting an 82-76 lead when Ilagan drilled the crushing blow that helped SSC-R recover from an opening day loss at the hands of league-leading Lyceum of the Philippines University.
Edward Dixon had 12 points while Yankie Haruna and James Pasturan got 10 and nine markers for the Blazers.
