Emilio Aguinaldo College has newfound talent and depth in the 94th Season of the NCAA Juniors Basketball Tournament.

All of it finally came together on Thursday at home at the EAC Gym in San Marcelino, Manila as the Brigadiers turned down the hype on erstwhile undefeated University of Perpetual Help, 83-78.

Cjay Boado breached the 20-point marker for the second straight game with 23 points on top of five rebounds, four steals, and two assists.

However, it was the rookie tandem of Ely Ilustrisimo and Bhen Lozano who showed the way in the endgame. “Natuto na kami na kailangan namin ng composure. Buti naman, ganun talaga ang pinakita ng boys ngayon,” a beaming head coach Azlie Guro said post-game.

Down by one inside the last four minutes Lozano’s short stab put the home team back on top, 74-73.

Following a split from the stripe by Perps, Ilustrisimo’s basket and bonus followed by another short stab from Lozano then added to the lead for a 77-74 EAC edge.

Both the lead and the momentum would be theirs for the last two minutes.

In the end, Ilustrisimo had 14 points, six rebounds, two assists, and two steals while Lozano had 11 markers, seven boards, three dimes, and two pilfers.

After two close losses in a row, the Brigadiers have now barged into the win column. “Karamihan dito sa amin, galing sa Team B namin kaya mga bata talaga. Sana, tuloy-tuloy yung pag-grow nila,” coach Azlie said.

Conversely, the Junior Altas now have a blemish on their record despite the best efforts of Joshua Gallano who posted a 20-point, 24-rebound double-double.
