CSB is back inside the winnersí circle after taking care of business against JRU
College of St. Benilde got just exactly what it needed to get going again in the NCAA 94 Men’s Basketball Tournament.
Stamping their class all over winless Jose Rizal University, the Blazers scored a convincing 81-66 victory on Tuesday at the Filoil Flying V Centre.
The Taft-based team got contributions from everybody to get back on track now at 2-2. “We’re a young team. We haven’t been together for a long time. We need consistency,” head coach TY Tang said.
The contest was close after the opening salvo until Clement Leutcheu powered CSB's strong second quarter.
The Cameroonian center dropped 10 of his 21 points in the period as his team outworked their opponents by a score of 21-12. “I’m just trying to help my team,” he said after turning in his best game of the tournament thus far.
The Blazers would not look back from there all the way to a return to the win column now at 2-2.
Leutcheu wound up with a 20-point, 14-rebound double-double and was backstopped by Yankie Haruna who had 15 markers of his own.
Edward Dixon and Unique Naboa also added 10 points and seven rebounds apiece.
JRU remained winless in four starts. Jed Mendoza yet again fronted the effort for them with 16 points, six assists, five rebounds, and four steals.
