San Beda University has been perfect even as Javee Mocon was yet to break out in the NCAA 94 Men’s Basketball Tournament.

That time finally came on Friday at the Filoil Flying V Centre, with the graduating forward posting a powerful double-double to energize the Red Lions right through Mapua University, 88-70.

Mocon had for himself 22 points and 16 rebounds to go along with four assists and three steals as the defending champions extended their unbeaten run to four in a row.

San Beda got off to a strong start with a 30-point first quarter, but the Cardinals answered with a strong second quarter of their own to only trail by four, 42-46, at the half.

Come the third period, however, Mocon took over and dropped 12 points, nearly matching what Mapua could muster. “The boys really stepped up their game especially in the second half,” head coach Boyet Fernandez said.

In the end, the Gilas cadet doubled his averages heading into the game of 11 points and eight rebounds.

Donald Tankoua backstopped him with 17 points and seven rebounds while Robert Bolick contributed 11 markers, eight assists, and four boards.

With their fourth win in a row, the Red Lions inched closer to league-leading Lyceum of the Philippines University (5-0).

They also have their confidence at its maximum heading into a rivalry game up against Colegio de San Juan de Letran a week from now. “Again, the boys really played well so we’ll be ready for our big game against Letran,” coach Boyet said.

On the other hand, the Cardinals got grounded again now at 2-3. Warren Bonifacio brought some good news for them with a career-high 19 points and 12 rebounds.
