NCAA: EAC upsets Baste for first win in the season
JP Magullano came out of nowhere to be at the spearhead of EAC's surprising win against San Sebastian

Emilio Aguinaldo College battled back and then dug deep to get its very first win in the 94th Season of the NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament.

Fighting back from a 12-point deficit before figuring out how to win in overtime, the Generals pulled off a shocking 79-77 victory versus San Sebastian College-Recoletos on Friday at the Filoil Flying V Centre.

JP Maguliano came out of nowhere for a big-time 30-point, 17-rebound double-double while Hamadou Laminou and Jerome Garcia also came through in the endgame as, at long last, they got on the board after five tries.

EAC was off to another slow start and was only kept in the game by Maguliano’s non-stop motor.  “I benched him the last game and good thing, he delivered today,” a relieved head coach Ariel S ison said post-game.

Trailing by seven inside the last four minutes, Laminou then ignited a 9-0 blast that took for his team its first lead in the game, 68-66.

Allyn Bulanadi and Baste countered and the tally was tied as regulation ended.

In overtime, the Golden Stags charged to a 77-73 lead before Maguliano’s follow-up basket fronted six unanswered points to grant the Generals a two-point lead. “Sabi ko lang sa kanila, yung execution, puso na e, hindi na galing,” coach Ariel said.

San Sebastian still had 8.6 seconds to extend the game or even earn the win, but Bulanadi and Ken Villapando both missed their shots.

Not long after, the San Marcelino-based squad was celebrating a much-needed and much-welcome win.

Laminou wound up with 13 points and nine rebounds while Garcia also added 13 markers.

For the Golden Stags, Michael Calisaan topped the scoring column with 23 points. Running out of gas in the endgame, however, they suffered a second straight setback to fall to 2-4.
