CJ Perez and LPU remain the masters of the elimination round of the NCAA
Lyceum of the Philippines University has yet again extended its domination in the eliminations now in the NCAA 94 Men’s Basketball Tournament.
CJ Perez remained a force all over the Filoil Flying V Centre on Friday as the Pirates ran away from University of Perpetual Help in the final frame for a 91-77 decision.
The reigning and defending MVP had 26 points and 10 rebounds to his name as LPU went 6-0 to start the season. “More than the sixth (straight win), it’s really more of how the guys really committed to playing to our best potential,” a beaming head coach Topex Robinson said post-game.
Dating back to last season where they were 18-0, they have now won 24 straight games in the elimination round.
Of course, the Altas were right there to challenge them, with Jielo Razon’s three pulling them to within 65-68 early in the final frame.
It was at that point, however, that Jaycee Marcelino caught fire and took charge alongside Perez.
Together, they scored 18 points and outscored Perps who only mustered 12 the rest of the way.
Marcelino wound up with 20 points and four rebounds while Spencer Pretta and Reymar Caduyac also added nine and eight markers, respectively.
Prince Eze paced Perpetual with 20 points and 18 rebounds while Jielo Razon also turned in the best game of his rookie year with 19 markers. Unable to stop Perez and Marcelino in the endgame, however, they drop to 2-2.
