Alvin Capobres granted San Sebastian the bounce back win it has been looking for
San Sebastian College-Recoletos has finally gotten a much-needed pick-me-up for its campaign in the NCAA 94 Men’s Basketball Tournament.
Busting out for a career game, Alvin Capobres boosted the Golden Stags right through Mapua University, 94-70, on Tuesday at the Filoil Flying V Centre.
Capobres scored 21 points, doing much of his damage in the second half with 17 points, and had more than enough support from Allyn Bulanadi who had 14 points, six rebounds, five assists, and three blocks as well as JM Calma who had 11 points and nine rebounds.
It was the third-year swingman who fronted the 14-2 push that turned a tied tally of 43-all to an advantage of 57-45 in favor of Baste.
Both the lead and the momentum would remain with them the rest of the way en route to a much-needed bounce back win. “Dalawang game, very tough losses. Buti ngayon, nag-respond ang mga bata,” head coach Egay Macaraya said post-game.
Even rookie Alex Desoyo joined in on the fun with a career-high 12 points. “The best game ng San Sebastian is ito. Nakita niyo, nag-step up yung mga rookies and this is a good sign,” their mentor remarked.
Losers of back-to-back games before this one, San Sebastian now stands at 3-4.
That standing could change, however, depending on the league’s decision regarding RK Ilagan who played in a “ligang labas” before the season started. “With all the distractions na nangyayari kay RK, maganda ang character na pinakita nila ngayon. I’m very proud of them,” coach Egay said.
For the 2-4 Cardinals, Cedric Pelayo topped the scoring column with 15 points.
