NCAA: Baste suspends RK Ilagan for rest of first round
San Sebastian school officials have decided that RK Ilagan will not be seeing action in any of the Golden Stags' remaining assignments in the first round

San Sebastian College-Recoletos is not waiting for the NCAA’s decision before acting on the issue currently facing RK Ilagan.

“Si RK will be out of the (first round) even if three games lang ang suspension niya sa pagkakamali. Ang mga pari (ng San Sebastian), nag-decide na he’ll be out of the (rest of the) first round – that’s four games,” head coach Egay Macaraya told reporters on Tuesday after the Golden Stags scored a bounce back win at the expense of Mapua University.

That means that RK Ilagan was already held out of the matchup opposite the Cardinals and will be held out in the upcoming games against University of Perpetual Help and San Beda University.

Ilagan, one of the Golden Stags’ top guns, is currently under investigation by the league’s management committee for playing in a commercial league in Quezon City in late June.

As per NCAA rules, a player is not allowed to see action in any other league during the ongoing season without the permission of his school.

The final decision regarding his status will be determined in a meeting scheduled in the afternoon.

The third-year guard averaged 13.8 points, 3.6 assists, and 2.8 rebounds in his team’s first five games – two ending up in wins.

If the league’s management committee decides for disciplinary action after their meeting, all five games he played in will be forfeited.

As such, from a standing of 3-4, San Sebastian will drop to 1-6.

Even now, coach Egay is already resigned to the fact that there will be disciplinary action coming. “Automatic naman yung ruling natin sa NCAA. What we’re fighting for is yung dalawang panalo namin,” he shared.

He then continued, “Yun na lang ang nagma-matter doon. Hopefully, yun ang fina-fight namin.”

He only hopes that it wouldn’t have come to this. As he put it, “What I was very frustrated (about) is alam na ni [Letran head coach] Jeff Napa na meron palang ganun na nangyari. ‘Di man lang nila nasabi sa amin.”

He then continued, “Pwede naman sanang (hindi) nangyari yun if Letran (was) honest sa amin.”

In the commercial league in question, Ilagan was matched up opposite Koy Galvelo, a player on the lineup of Colegio de San Juan de Letran.

Sources said, however, that the Knights have already imposed a disciplinary action on Galvelo who has not been given any second of playing time in the NCAA 94.
