NCAA: Coach Jeff blasts coach Egay for pointing fingers
Letran coach Jeff Napa was adamant that he owes nothing to San Sebastian

Colegio de San Juan de Letran head coach Jeff Napa has taken offense for being namedropped by San Sebastian College-Recoletos mentor Egay Macaraya in the issue the two teams find themselves in.

“I think it’s not my responsibility to answer kung ano man yung sinabi ng kabila. Wala akong pakialam sa kung sino mang school yan,” coach Jeff told reporters after the Knights convincing victory versus Arellano University on Tuesday.

Earlier in the day, in the Golden Stags’ own post-win interview, coach Egay tackled the league investigation and looming disciplinary action on RK Ilagan.

Ilagan, one of Baste’s top guns, is currently under investigation by the league’s management committee for playing in a commercial league in Quezon City late last June.

However, Coach Egay also said that he hopes that it wouldn’t have come to that. As he put it, “What I was very frustrated (about) is alam na ni [Letran head coach] Jeff Napa na meron palang ganun na nangyari. ‘Di man lang nila nasabi sa amin.”

He then continued, “Pwede naman sanang (hindi) nangyari yun if Letran (was) honest sa amin.”

In the commercial league in question, Ilagan was matched up opposite Koy Galvelo, a player in Letran’s line-up.

As it turns out, however, the Knights have already imposed a disciplinary action on Galvelo by suspending him indefinitely and not letting him play any second of playing time in the season.  “Nung sinabi niya sa akin (kung anong nangyari), galit na galit ako. Marami na akong sinabing masamang salita sa bata na kung pako, kumbaga, baon na baon na,” coach Jeff said.

He then continued, “Tapos may indefinite suspension siya. Wala sa akin ang desisyon. Binigay ko sa teammates niya yung desisyon.”

As such, Galvelo will no longer have to be at the receiving end of any investigation and disciplinary action by the league.

And so, Letran’s third-year tactician said he has already taken care of his own player in Galvelo and should not be blamed for what happened and what will happen to Ilagan. “Nalaman ko lang naman yung (kay RK Ilagan) nung tinanong ni [Letran athletics moderator] Fr. Vic [Calvo] e. Ba’t nila ako ituturo? Kasalanan nila yun,” he said, “nila” and “sila” referring to San Sebastian.

He then continued, “Wag tayong mag-point fingers. We take action sa kung ano man ang ginawa natin at ngayon, I took my action kung anong ginawa ko kay Galvelo kasi player ko siya.”

Usually even-keeled, coach Jeff was more emotional than usual as he furthered, “Kung may ginawang kalokohan yung ibang eskwelahan, wala akong pakialam. Kasalanan nila yun. Gagawa sila ng kalokohan tapos ako masisisi? Mali naman yata yun.”

In the end, the Knights’ mentor reiterated that his own team is all he cares about. “Ang responsibility ko is yung 15 players ko na susunod sa patakaran namin. Kung meron mang lumabag kung sino man dun, wala akong pakialam,” he said.

He then continued, “Ako, responsibilidad ko yung kinseng players ko, may Team B pa ako. Alangan namang intindihin ko pa yan?!”
