NCAA: Perez, perfect Pirates outclass upstart Blazers
CJ Perez and LPU have now won 25 elimimation games in a row

Lyceum of the Philippines University is already in a place where College of St. Benilde wants to be.

On Tuesday at the Filoil Flying V Centre, the wide margin between the two teams showed as the perfect Pirates stamped their class all over the upstart Blazers, 77-65.

Of course, CJ Perez spearheaded the charge with 22 points, 12 rebounds, and five steals while Mike Nzeusseu provided the backup with a 16-point, 13-rebound double-double as LPU stayed unscathed through seven games in the NCAA 94 Men’s Basketball Tournament.

Jaycee Marcelino also had 14 points and five rebounds and MJ Ayaay chipped in 11 markers, seven boards, two assists, and two steals in their 25th win in a row in the elimination round dating back to last season.

Still, it took until the third quarter for the Pirates to break the game wide open. “We’re always gonna be challenged and we really have to bring our best. That’s what happened today,” head coach Topex Robinson said post-game.

CSB actually led by four, 43-39, early in the third quarter courtesy of Yankie Haruna’s putback until see Perez scored eight points in a 13-0 run to put his team ahead, 52-43.

They would never look back to score a morale-boosting victory ahead of a highly anticipated matchup opposite resurgent Colegio de San Juan de Letran. “Letran is a strong team, they beefed up this season and that will be a good matchup,” coach Topex said.

For the Blazers, Justin Gutang and Edward Dixon had 13 points apiece to show the way. Unable to keep up with LPU, though, they drop to 2-4 in the standings.
