"Kung kaya ni Scottie, kaya ko rin!"
Robert Bolick just added a new dimension to his game and it's inspired by none other than PBA Finals MVP Scottie Thompson.
With 11 rebounds to complement his 20 points, six assists, and two steals in San Beda's rivalry Friday victory against Colegio de San Juan de Letran, Bolick bared that he was really channeling Perpetual alumnus Thompson.
"Kung kaya ni Scottie, kaya ko rin! Kita mo mga rebound ko? Kahit ginugulangan ko, tinutulak ko mga yan, tinutulungan ko lang yung team," said the King Lion.
"Idol niya yun!" mentor Boyet Fernandez added.
Thompson recently earned the PBA Finals MVP nod last Wednesday after posting an average of 10.8 points, 7.7 rebounds, and 5.2 assists in the series. Clearly, younger basketball players like Bolick were inspired by him after showing that it's not only shooting that can win you games - rebounds too.
Bolick bared that in the prior games, scouting reports have always exposed that he is lax with getting boards and so today he decided to do something about it.
"Siguro chance ko na rin, sa scouting report kasi hindi ako nag-rerebound. So tinry ko lang, eh medyo maganda naman so tuloy ko lang mga Scottie rebound."
In the thriller rivalry match, aside from the sight of a blue-and-red jersey as inspiration to win, the San Beda skipper dug deep back to 2015 for motivation.
The last time San Beda lost against Letran was in the 2015 Finals. The 6-foot-1 guard made sure that that will never happen again, not on his watch.
"Maganda talaga pag archrival ang kalaban mo kasi gusto namin manalo. Nasa isip ko yung nangyari kina AC [Soberano], mga seniors namin na natalo sa finals [nung 2015]. Kami, di naman kami makakalimot."
