Robert Bolick just could not be stopped as San Beda routed Arellano
Robert Bolick was a man on a mission on Friday at the Filoil Flying V Centre – a mission to make sure that San Beda University goes back to its winning ways.
Mission accomplished for Bolick as his 50-point explosion proved to be more than enough to power the Red Lions right through Arellano University, 98-79, and back inside the winners’ circle in the NCAA 94 Men’s Basketball Tournament.
The Chiefs were giving the defending champions all they could handle for the first 25 minutes of the game before Bolick decided to take over. “Again, sinasabi ko nga lagi, wherever we want to go, kung saan gusto ni Robert Bolick pumunta, doon kami,” head coach Boyet Fernandez said.
With his team down by three at the midway mark of the third quarter, the graduating guard waxed hot in an 18-4 rush that put San Beda ahead, 68-57.
They would never look back all the way to a much-welcome return to the win column now at 7-1 following their first setback of the season just three days ago.
In all, Bolick dropped 37 points in the second half – just two points shy of matching what all of Arellano could muster at 39. “Pinalitan ko na last minute kasi maganda na yung 50. At least, mabigyan siya ng palakpak ng San Beda,” coach Boyet said.
For good measure, the King Lion also tallied four rebounds, four assists, and two steals all while shooting an efficient 18-of-25 from the field and a perfect 9-of-9 from the free throw line.
Javee Mocon also added 15 points and seven rebounds and Donald Tankoua had 13 markers and five boards of his own.
Michael Canete paced the Chiefs with 24 points. Without any answer for Bolick, though, the dropped to 3-5.
