NCAA: Pirates still too much for Stags
LPUís first and second rounds of the season began with wins over San Sebastian

Clearly, CJ Perez and Lyceum of the Philippines University did not skip a beat as the first round came to a close and the second round commenced in the NCAA 94 Men’s Basketball Tournament.

Reigning and defending MVP Perez stuffed the stat sheet anew as the Pirates probed they still had the number of San Sebastian College-Recoletos in a wire-to-wire win, 88-70, on Tuesday at the Filoil Flying V Centre.

The league-leaders blasted off to a 7-0 start and never looked back all the way to their 10th win in as many games in the tournament. “Before the game, we reminded the boys that San Sebastian is a 10th-ranked team, but they are playing like a Final Four team,” head coach Topex Robinson said post-game.

Perez wound up with 21 points on top of nine rebounds, five steals, and two assists – continuing the tear he has been in throughout the first round.

Marcelino twins Jaycee and Jayvee also made an impact with the former finishing with 17 points, six rebounds, three assists, and two steals and the latter ending with 14 markers, six dimes, four boards, and two pilfers. “They always bring the energy,” coach Topex said of his twins.

Even Spencer Pretta and Toci Tansingco joined in on the fun with eight and seven points, respectively. It was also the latter’s three that punctuated their strong start to the game.

With the start to finish domination, LPU has now won 28 elimination round games in a row dating back to last year.

For the Golden Stags, Michael Calisaan showed the way with a 17-point, 11-rebound double-double.
