Jerrick Balanza needs to undergo surgery on a tumor found in his brain.
Colegio de San Juan de Letran’s run to the top of the standings has met a speed bump.
The Knights will no longer have the services of Jerrick Balanza for the rest of Season 94 after he was diagnosed with a brain tumor last Tuesday.
According to a letter forwarded by Letran athletic director Fr. Vic Calvo to the league’s management committee, Balanza “needs to undergo an operation due to the tumor found in his temporal lobe of the brain.”
As such, the Knights have sidelined their fourth-year swingman and have requested the activation of Jap Pambid to take his place.
Balanza has been averaging 7.4 points, 2.6 rebounds, and 2.2 assists in 25.5 minutes and has been a key cog in his team’s charge to the third spot thus far in the tournament.
In his absence, first-year player Bonbon Batiller will be tasked to carry a heavier load and will likely be thrust into the first five.
That means that the likes of Koy Galvelo, Alex Mandreza, and the newly activated Pambid will have to come up big from the bench so that Letran will not skip a beat.
