San Beda had no problems whatsoever against struggling Mapua
Donald Tankoua turned in his best game just as San Beda University played one of its most complete outings in the 94th Season of the NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament.
Tankoua pumped in 24 points to power the Red Lions to a start-to-finish domination of Mapua University, 80-55, on Friday at the Filoil Flying V Centre.
The Cameroonian powerhouse also hauled in eight rebounds while Calvin Oftana chipped in 11 points in the defending champions’ fourth win in a row and 10th overall in 11 games.
After a tight opening salvo, San Beda broke away from its opponent with a 25-8 tear that lasted for all of the second quarter. “We played really good defense especially sa second quarter,” head coach Boyet Fernandez said post-game.
From there, they would not be threatened as Tankoua dropped 15 of his output in the second half. “Donald really did a good job today,” his mentor remarked.
As such, both Robert Bolick and Javee Mocon didn’t have to do much and the former finished with seven points, eight assists, and six rebounds and the latter ended with nine markers and six boards.
Laurenz Victoria paced the Cardinals with 19 points on top of six rebounds and four assists. Their struggles continued, however, and they suffered their sixth straight setback to drop to 2-8.
