With the Jerry Codiñera era done at Arellano University, AU Braves consultant Junjie Ablan takes over as interim coach of the Chiefs.
With the Jerry Codiñera era done at Arellano University, Junjie Ablan saw his first game as the Chiefs' interim head coach on Friday afternoon. Unfortunately, it was a rude welcome for him after bowing to the College of Saint Benilde, 89-73.
Ablan was the pioneer head coach of the Chiefs when Arellano University first played in the NCAA in 2009. When he was called up to take Codiñera's place, Wednesday afternoon, he was the consultant of the high school team of AU.
"Syempre, nagulat [ako]. Di ko naman ineexpect na mawawala si Coach Jerry [Codiñera], parang na-shock ako," said Ablan who also coached the Letran Squires for two years.
Given the tough challenge of suddenly entering a team as a head coach mid-season, he knows that he has to make moves gradually as the whole team is still adjusting with his arrival and struggling to lift up a 4-8 slate.
"Sinabi ko sa kanila nung start nung day, bago mag game, na yung feeling ba na opening game uli ngayon. Excited kayo. Full of energy," he expressed.
"Puro motivation palang kasi wala talagang time to prepare," Ablan added.
However, the duration of Ablan's assignment's with the Chiefs is not yet sure for now as he coaches on an interim basis.
"Sabi interim basis. Basta ang sabi lang sa akin until we finish this NCAA," he explained.
