NCAA: Other guys take center stage, Letran takes care of EAC
Jeremiah Taladua led a total of three players who registered career-highs for Letran in their matchup against EAC

Bong Quinto and JP Calvo didn’t have to do much for Colegio de San Juan de Letran to dig deeper on the third spot it is occupying in the NCAA 94 Men’s Basketball Tournament.

Quinto and Calvo were still there, but it was Jeremiah Taladua, Koy Galvelo, and Fran Yu who stole the show in the Knights’ 91-82 triumph over Emilio Aguinaldo College on Friday at the Filoil Flying V Centre.

All of Taladua, Galvelo, and Yu scored career-highs as the Intramuros-based squad leaned on its deep bench to score back-to-back wins and ninth overall in 13 games.

In the end, Taladua had 15 points, six rebounds, two assists, and two steals; Galvelo had 15 points of his own; and Yu had 13 points built on three triples.

In all, Letran’s reserves dominated their counterparts, 44-17.

That meant that it was all okay for Quinto and Calvo to have subpar outings with just eight and five points, respectively.

Still, EAC would not give up and behind 10 unanswered points, pull to within 70-76 inside the last five minutes.

It was at that point, however, that Taladua fired five points to punctuate an 8-2 blast that re-increased the Knights edge to 84-72.

Not long after, they also reinforced their place in solo third – getting even more separation from fourth-running College of St. Benilde and fifth-running University of Perpetual Help.

On the other hand, the Generals bowed out of contention now with a 2-11 standing. Jerome Garcia topped the scoring column for them with 20 points.
