Pirates secure at least a Final Four playoff
Lyceum of the Philippines University clinched at least a playoff for a Final Four spot in the NCAA Season 94 Seniors basketball competition.

Arellano University just absorbed the brunt of Lyceum of the Philippines University’s rampage Thursday in the NCAA Season 94 Seniors basketball competition.

Coming off a sorry loss that snapped their 30-game elimination round almost a week ago, the Pirates dropped the hammer right from the get-go to crush the Chiefs, 113-79, Thursday to get back in the winning track and secure at least a playoff for a Final Four spot at the FilOil Flying V Centre in San Juan.

LPU moved back at solo lead with a 13-1 win-loss record six days after suffering an 81-83 setback at the hands of University of Perpetual Help off a buzzer-beater putback by Prince Eze thatr ended the Pirates’ 12-game season winning streak.

Jaycee Marcelino and CJ Perez led the way for the Intramuros-based squad’s scoring barrage that silenced Arellano University early despite missing the services of Jayvee Marcelino following a deep cut above the nose in their last outing.

Marcelino finished with 21 points on 8-of-11 field goal shooting with four steals, three rebounds and three assists while MJ Ayaay and Spencer Pretta added 16 and 15 markers, respectively, for the Pirates, who tallied season highs in points,  assists (27) and bench points (81). Reymar Caduyac and Jeff Santos had 13 and 11 points.

Perez came up an assist short of punching a triple double with 10 points, 10 boards and nine dishes for LPU.

"It's a big opportunity for us to get better and try to be better versions of ourselves and that was a good win for us," said Pirates head coach Topex Robinson.

LPU started off hot, pulling away 25-8 in the closing stretch of the opening period and sustained its momentum the whole match. The Pirates blew the game open, 54-38, at halftime before Pretta pushed LPU’s lead to 113-74 with a minute left in the game off a triple.

The Chiefs dropped to 4-9 and were dwn to their fourth straight loss.

Archie Concepcion scored 16 points while Michael Canete got 13 markers and 14 boards for Arellano University.
