Colegio de San Juan de Letran is only the third team to down Lyceum of the Philippines University in the last two years.

Only counting the elimination round, the Knights are only the second squad to sink the Pirates in the same timeframe.

True to form, though, instead of being down, LPU head coach Topex Robinson was still all smiles after the fact. “I congratulate them. They really are a tough team,” he told reporters post-game.

Indeed, Coach Topex was, as always, gracious in defeat, and said their opponents deserved the win. “They really are a Final Four contender. They are a strong, well-coached team and they have the players to match up against any team here in the league,” he said.

In particular, the always amiable mentor had nothing but good words for counterpart coach Jeff Napa. As he put it, “I did stupid decisions. The reason that we lost to Letran is first, they’re better than us and second, I was outcoached by Coach Jeff. That’s really the game.”

He also added, “Today, I was outcoached. Coach Jeff was the better coach.”

For Coach Topex, their second loss in the elimination round in the season will only make them stronger. “At the end of the day, there’s so much basketball to be played and we’re excited for this opportunity because this kind of experience just keeps on binding us together as a team. They know that what doesn’t kill them makes them stronger,” he shared.

He then continued, “Whether they like it or not, we’re gonna be in the Final Four and we’re so grateful for that. We’re excited for whoever it is we’re gonna play.”

And another thing the Pirates have going for them is the culture that has been established and reinforced in the last two years. “The reason I know they’ll be okay is we have a culture that loves, serves, and cares. Sabi ko nga sa kanila, we will never be defined as a team just because we lost to a better team this afternoon,” he said.

He then continued, “We will be defined by how we’re gonna finish this season and the season after.”
