MAPUA 12-4 (Final Four)
JRU 10-6
LPU 9-7

PERPETUAL 6-9 (eliminated)

Only two spots remain in the Final Four of the NCAA 94 Men’s Basketball Tournament after Mapua High School, last year’s runner-up, formally booked its ticket to there.

Without main man Clint Escamis, the Red Robins had to dig deep in pulling off a 74-73 escape act on very game Emilio Aguinaldo College at the Filoil Flying V Centre, Friday.

Escamis rested his ailing left knee for the second game in a row.

Still, his team got timely contributions from Paolo Hernandez who tallied 8 points, six assists, four rebounds, and two blocks as well as Jonnel Policarpio who posted a 13-point, 16-rebound double-double to get back on track now at 12-4.

With the win, Mapua assured itself of a place in the next round while also staying within striking distance of league-leading College of St. Benilde-La Salle Greenhills which currently owns the top-seed at 13-2.

Also, the Red Robins gained even more separation from third-running 10-5 San Beda High School which is also pursuing them for a twice-to-beat advantage.

Meanwhile, Jose Rizal High School and Lyceum of the Philippines University are still threatening for the last two playoff berths following their respective convincing victories.

The Light Bombers also dug deep after losing a 21-point lead in the third quarter, but ultimately prevailed over desperate Arellano High School, 75-73.

John Amores yet again proved his worth with 26 points, eight coming in the last seven minutes, to go along with nine rebounds, two assists, and two steals. Partner-in-crime John Delos Santos was right there with him with 19 markers, six boards, five dimes, and four pilfers of his own.

The character win moved JRU to 10-6 in the standings – still at solo fourth.

Still chasing them are the Junior Pirates who made quick work of Colegio de San Juan de Letran, 81-71.

Mac Guadana continued his tear as of late with 24 points, seven rebounds, five steals, and two assists while Jearelan Omandac contributed 16 markers and four boards in LPU’s ninth win in seven games.

Meanwhile, the Braves, one of the favorites in the preseason, have been eliminated now at 6-9. Aaron Fermin gave his all for them with 25 points and 19 rebounds while Rom Junsay and Lars Sunga chipped in 16 markers apiece.

With their own losses, the Squires dropped to 3-12 and the Brigadiers dropped to 3-13.
