University of Perpetual Help secured at least a playoff for the last Final Four berth.
University of Perpetual Help secured at least a playoff for the last Final Four berth in the NCAA Season 94 seniors basketball competition after an 81–67 win over Emilio Aguinaldo College on Tuesday at the FilOil Flying V Centre in San Juan.
The Altas won their sixth straight win to improve to 11-5 win-loss record and tighten their grip at the fourth spot. The victory also gave Perpetual some cushion against fifth running College of St. Benilde (8-7).
Kim Aurin finished with a personal-best 26 points, Prince Eze got 14 markers and pulled down 16 rebounds while Jelo Razon got 11 points for the Las Pinas-based squad.
Perpetual broke open the game with a huge third quarter push after heading into halftime with just a 37-35 lead.
“We struggled a bit nu’ng the first half. Medyo tight ang mga bata, gusto tambakan agad. Pero normally sa mga games na ganito, yun ang inaasahan mong mangyari,” said Altas coach Frankie Lim. “Buti na lang nag-settle down.”
“We had a strong third. We outscored them by 10 points in the third. Mas maganda ang flow ng opensa namin (sa second half),” he added.
The Altas opened the third with a 15-2 start and outscored the Generals, 24-14, in the canto to control the game.
The Generals lost center Hamadou Laminou with just 22.6 seconds remaining and EAC trailing, 61-47, with a cut on his left eye. The center slammed his head on the floor after losing his balance on a turnaround and Perpetual’s Jerome Pasia landing on the back of Laminou’s head.
Without their leading scorer and main man inside the paint, the Generals struggled and fell to a 4-13 card.
Laminou finished with 17 points, Jethro Mendoza also had 17 markers while JP Magullano got 10 points and 10 boards in a lost cause for the Generals.
