NCAA: After losing to LPU, Bong Quinto still has to defend his thesis

The day is far from over for Letran captain Bong Quinto - and partner-in-crime JP Calvo
Safe to say, Bong Quinto wasn’t at his best as Colegio de San Juan de Letran bowed down to Lyceum of the Philippines University in their Final Four matchup in the NCAA 94 Men’s Basketball Tournament.
Playing in what turned out to be his last game in blue and red, he struggled, for his standards, with just 12 poins on 6 out of 17 shooting from the field to go along with seven assists and six rebounds on Friday.
The Knights’ captain also wasn’t able to do anything as the Pirates ran away from them in the third quarter.
Post-game, he had a hard time finding words to explain how he felt. “Ewan ko. ‘Di ko alam yung pakiramdam e. ‘Di ko alam yung gagawin ko,” he said.
Or perhaps, Quinto was just saving his sentences for another obstacle facing him in the next few hours. “’Di ako makapag-focus kasi after nito, may thesis pa kami, defense namin mamaya,” he said, also sharing that he is groupmates with JP Calvo, also a marketing major.
And so, Letran’s graduating main men wasted no time in turning their attention to their studies – having to rush back to Intramuros right after a sorry loss inside the Filoil Flying V Centre in San Juan.
Nonetheless, the 6-foot-2 forward still acknowledged that he could have done much more to help his team try and stay alive. “Alam ko talaga sa sarili ko na isa ako sa mga malaking rason bakit natalo kami kasi yung performance ko, ‘di yun yung in-expect ng eskwelahan namin. Kaya nga ‘di ako makatingin sa crowd,” he shared.
He then continued, “’Di ko ine-expect na ganun yung lalaruin ko e. Kumbaga, wala akong natulong sa team namin ngayong laban na ‘to.”
Still, Knights’ mentor Jeff Napa made it a point to remind everybody that they wouldn’t even be here if not for Quinto. “Sa akin, yung pinakita ni Bong ka kaya niyang mag-sacrifice, everybody followed. Yun yung naging focal team (point) ng team na ‘to,” he said.
He then continued, “Nagsimula kay Bong, sumunod lahat.”
