Robert Bolick and San Beda took care of business against Perpetual
It will be San Beda University up against Lyceum of the Philippines for all the glory once more in the NCAA 94 Men’s Basketball Tournament.
The Red Lions made it happen after dispatching University of Perpetual Help, 83-72, on Friday at the Filoil Flying V Centre.
Robert Bolick, Javee Mocon, and Donald Tankoua were their usual selves, but the defending champions also had much-welcome contributions from their other guys in taking care of business.
From just three points ahead late in the third, AC Soberano’s back-to-back long-range missiles punctuated a 15-7 blast that build up a 59-48 lead for San Beda early in the fourth.
They would protect that advantage until the final buzzer. “All my players did a good job today and with AC and Robert there, we made our shots,” head coach Boyet Fernandez said post-game.
Bolick wound up with a game-high 23 points on top of six assists and four rebounds to, as always, show the way for his side while Soberano chipped in 12 markers all from triples
Mocon and Tankoua both had double-doubles with the former finishing with 14 points and 15 rebounds and the latter ending with 13 markers and 18 boards.
With that, the Red Lions will be making their 13th championship round in a row.
There, they hope to yet again pass the tough test sure to be put up by the Pirates. “It’s not yet over. We still have a title to defend against Lyceum,” coach Boyet said.
If they do just that, they will be claiming a three-peat.
For the Altas, Jielo Razon and Tonton Peralta each had 16 points to top the scoring column. With no answers for Bolick and Soberano in the endgame, however, their campaign comes to a close at the hands of San Beda for the fifth time in the last seven years.
Prince Eze also had a 13-point, 13-rebound double-double in his last game in wine and gold.
