Robert Bolick and San Beda are out to get another three-peat at the expense of new rival LPU.
San Beda University has won 10 of the last 12 NCAA championships.
Now, they are again in the Finals to try and win their 11th of the last 13.
Through that dynastic run, the Red Lions have had a three-peat and a five-peat.
At present, they have won back-to-back titles and are going for another three-peat.
That is enough motivation for them as they face off with Lyceum of the Philippines University once more. “Ang isang motivation is to get the three-peat for our team,” head coach Boyet Fernandez put simply after they took care of business against University of Perpetual Help to move on to the Finals.
Coach Boyet, though, knows full well that is easier said than done. “It will be a good championship series because we’re playing LPU and we know we beat LPU (in the Finals) last year and yun yung paghuhugutan nila,” he said.
Indeed, last year, San Beda spoiled what was supposed to be a perfect season for the Pirates who swept the elimination round only to lose in two games in the championship.
This time around, the two teams split their elims meetings – and both decisions remained as close to call as ever. “Sa totoo lang, kung titignan mo yung sitwasyon, points by points, when we played, we beat them by seven points (in the second round), but they also beat us by seven points (in the first round),” coach Boyet said.
In the first round, the LPU tamed San Beda, 73-66. In the second round, San Beda sank LPU, 75.68
Nonetheless, the hardworking mentor said the he and his boys remain upbeat about getting another three-peat for Mendiola. As he put it, “We hope that we can achieve the community wants us to achieve is by winning and defending our crown.”
Game 1 of the Finals between San Beda and LPU is slated for Tuesday at the MOA Arena. As always, all of the action will be on S+A, S+A HD, LIGA, LIGA HD and via livestream.
